From filling sold-out clubs across the nation, to appearing as a regular on Chelsea Lately and a favorite on The Adam Carolla Show, Jo Koy has come a long way from his modest beginnings at a Las Vegas coffee house. His infectious energy, explosive stage presence, insightful jokes, and family-inspired humor have created a diverse and loyal fanbase, for which he is deeply appreciative.
Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Jo credits his mother for his comedic and acting talents. Encouraged by his mom, Jo participated in school talent shows and presented impromptu performances for his family and friends. This loving support led to the Las Vegas coffee house, and inspired a move to Los Angeles.
In 2005, Jo hit the “opportunity of a lifetime” with a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He became one of a select few ever to receive a standing ovation. Since then, he has appeared on the show several times throughout the years.
A proud father, Jo Koy has always been inspired by his son in his ambition and in his act. This influence is seen in Jo’s first Comedy Central special “Don’t Make Him Angry,” which aired in January 2009. He followed up with his highly anticipated second Comedy Central special “Lights Out” 2012, and looks forward to recording his third special in 2014.
Jo has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, various VH1 I Love series, The Joy Behar Show, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Jamie Foxx: Laffapalooza. He is a regular headlining comedian at the world famous Improv, tours the college circuit nationwide, and performs in comedy clubs and theatres both in the U.S., and internationally. Jo has traversed the country, consistently selling out in Hawaii, San Francisco, Orange County, Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, Omaha, Ohio, Florida, D.C., Boston, New York, and many more. He has taken his comedy to Canada, Guam, the U.K. and Australia, proving that his humor crosses all cultural boundaries.
A firm believer in philanthropic service and giving back to the community, Jo is currently working with The Lupus Foundation to broaden awareness and support further research, and has organized charity events and contests to benefit this important cause. Jo was inspired to champion this cause to support his dear sister, Rowena, who is bravely battling the disease. In his efforts, Jo has raised tens of thousands of dollars with benefit shows and selling shirts created specifically for the cause, he’s visited The Lupus Foundation headquarters in D.C., and participated in the Walk to End Lupus alongside his sister.
